New Year, New Skincare Routine

Starting a new skincare routine at the beginning of the year can be a great way to refresh and rejuvenate your skin. A good skincare routine typically includes the following steps: cleansing, toning, exfoliating, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen.

So let’s start with the foundation of it all, cleanser. Cleansing helps to remove dirt, oil, and impurities from the skin's surface. A gentle cleanser or face wash should be used, as harsh soaps can strip the skin of its natural oils and moisture barrier. A simple cleanser like Cetaphil or Ceravae is gentle enough to prevent moisture loss.

Toning helps to restore the skin's natural pH balance and can also help to remove any remaining traces of makeup or dirt. Be sure to choose a toner that is beneficial for your own skin.

Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells, which can lead to a more even skin tone and a brighter complexion. However, you should be careful not to over-exfoliate, as this can cause irritation, redness, and other skin issues that you can avoid but having an exfoliating schedule (dermatologists usually recommend once or twice a week.

Moisturizing helps to keep the skin hydrated and can help to improve its texture and appearance. Moisturizer should be used in morning and at night. Our favorites are Kate Somerville Exfolikate moisturizer, if you are looking for something more affordable the La Roche Posay Double Repair moisturizer is a good

Sunscreen is important in any skincare routine, as it helps to protect the skin from the sun's harmful UV rays. A sunscreen with at least SPF 30 should be applied every day, even on cloudy days. Supergoop sunscreens are always a great option.

It's also important to note that a skincare routine should be personalized to your individual skin type, as what works for one person may not work for another. So, before you make any big changes this new year, consider consulting a dermatologist or esthetician to determine what products and routine will work best for you and your skin type.
